About This Project

The Wyoming Office of Tourism (WOT) is the agency charged with bringing non-resident visitors to Wyoming by promoting the state as a vacation destination to both domestic and international audiences. The local tourism industry relies on WOT to create an umbrella marketing campaign, promoting Wyoming as an ideal vacation destination and positioning Wyoming against competitive brands as the destination of choice. The Wyoming Travel & Tourism website is the most impactful and effective method for this marketing effort.

When WOT approached us with the desire to completely overhaul their site – ranging from visual language to tone to the overall aesthetics – we embraced the challenge as an opportunity to showcase a destination that really sold itself. The initial step was to conduct research on the pages and areas of the site that garnered the most interest. As the creative lead, I took our findings and created a wireframe based on the learnings. This was then fleshed out using visual aesthetics that aligned with Wyoming’s branding and deemed most appropriate for capturing the target audience and for converting potential visitors. The site took into consideration the best practices at the time and is one of the first travel and tourism websites to feature responsive design and integrate social media.

The result is a website that won Best Travel Site Award from the Web Marketing Association (www.webaward.org), one of the leading web/digital industry associations, for the category of Best in Industry.
